Butterfly

Are you afraid,
when we're not alone,
that others will suspect,
your feelings on their own,
but as soon as they're gone,
your insecurity goes away,
and you've opened up to me,
like you did yesterday

Like the ink on the pages,
on a tattered old book,
our memories thread through my heart,
all conversations and looks,
but I wonder just how long,
things will stay like this,
everything has closure,
heartbreaks or a goodnight kiss

But one day,
you'll have waited to long,
and the note on your front porch,
will tell you I'm gone,
your days dried up,
your chances no longer in sight,
like a butterfly out of your grip,
I've flown away in the night
